Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host programs commemorating the anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga from Thursday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Sept. 20. The Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center will be open until 6 p.m. each day.
A variety of activities, including evening programs, walks, talks and tours will take place throughout the extended weekend. This year events will take place at the same time they took place 146 years ago, during the Battle of Chickamauga.
Living history demonstrations include cavalry, medical, infantry and artillery. The Infantry and Artillery programs will describe the action at the Kelly Crossroads from both the Union and Confederate perspective. Demonstrations will take place along Battleline Road at the south end of Kelly Field. Both the infantry and artillery camps will be open throughout the weekend and visitors are encouraged to learn what life was like for the Civil War soldier and artilleryman.
Union Artillery Demonstrations
Saturday, Sept. 19, at 9:45 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 2:15 p.m., and 3:45 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.

Throughout the day on Saturday, Sept. 19, authors Perry Short and Roger Linton will be available to sign and talk about their books at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center bookstore. Perry Short is the author of “Generation of Warriors” and Roger Linton penned “Chickamauga: A Battlefield History in Images” and “Adaline Brotherton: Heroine of Chickamauga.” These authors provide a connection to the families that lived on the Battlefield 146 years ago and offer a history from an often forgotten perspective. The bookstore will also have a satellite store at the Kelly Cabin throughout the weekend.
